Pakistan solar market shifts toward batteries as imports surge

BR Research reports that Pakistan imported about $405 million of solar panels and $182 million of lithium-ion batteries in the first quarter of FY27. That is about one dollar spent on batteries for every $2.2 spent on panels, compared with one dollar for every $44 two years ago. Pakistan has imported close to 60,000 MW of solar panel capacity, and officially net-metered capacity is only a small fraction of that.
